I've decided to combine my January and February hauls into a single post because I have mixed up the things between these two months, but I end up separating them into two anyway since there's quite a lot of them. Here we go °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°

1. Namjoon: "Moon Daddy" Enamel Pin

This enamel pin is designed by yours truly, and it's officially my first rainbow plated pin! I took the risk of self-funding these babies and although it almost broke my whole bank account, I had zero regrets over them. They turned out stunning, especially under direct sunlight! Because of the rainbow plating, some of them look more purplish, while others look more greenish and some even have yellow hues on them. I would say that this is my favourite among other pins I've produced.

Also, the name was actually meant as a joke since ARMY's are used to calling Joon as Moonchild. I

+ You can purchase one of your own at Shopee (for Malaysians) and Etsy (International)

2. GFriend: "Sunrise" Enamel Pin

Another enamel pin by yours truly! This design was one of the earliest that I've made for Fish Cookie Pins, inspired by GFriend's Sunrise music video (stream here!), but I revamped it slightly in order to simplify it and reduce the production cost. This was also self-funded by myself, because let's face it, girl group pins rarely get much attention compared to boy groups. It was a risk of course, knowing the fact that I may not be able to sell these out, but I hold the girls very dearly in my heart and I knew I needed a GFriend pin anyway, hence these are pushed forward into production anyway.

This batch of pins are the best I've received from my manufacturer, almost 80% of the pins are standard grades and flawless looking. The cut-outs are also close to perfection, and I definitely have no regrets producing them.

3. Seokjin & Areum Enamel Pin

This pin was neither designed nor produced by me, although I am currently selling it in my shop! I had a friend who had some issues and needed help in selling them, so I took over. They're the cutest little pins, design inspired by a scene in BTS World.

They're being sold at a cheap price, so please do consider getting one if you collect (BTS) enamel pins. Every RM20/$5 will be used for my friend's medical bills and other important things.

+ You can purchase one of your own at Shopee (for Malaysians) and Etsy (International)

4. GOT7: "Call My Name" Enamel Pin

Technically, I received these GOT7 pins just a few days before we reached 2020. But since I never prepared for my December '19 haul post, I decided to include them with this post.

This design was inspired by their most recent comeback, and I can happily agree that this is the biggest pin that I have produced. They're big sparkly bois ✨

5. Sunrise Postcards

These postcards are part of the freebies that I gave out to those who pre-ordered my GFriend: Sunrise pins. The design was based on the vinyl record case that SinB held in Sunrise music video. I included some part of my favourite lyrics as well.

I'm still contemplating whether to add this to my shop, because I got plenty of them still.

6. BTS: Everything You Need to Know About the Kings of K-Pop

This came as a late Christmas gift from Pansing, the company that often sends me books to review in exchange of honest reviews. They're aware that I'm much in love with BTS, so this was already the fourth BTS-related book that they sent my way!

I believe that this book would make a good guide for those who wish to get to know the boys better; the things compiled in it were definitely by a true ARMY and not just another person trying to make profit off of their popularity without actually knowing much of them. I had fun reliving back the memories that BTS had with ARMY.

+ Available in most good bookstores

7. Innisfree Jeju Life Perfumed Hand Cream – Guesthouse Laundry

I love handcreams and the scent of fresh laundry. When I found this while tagging along my friends into an Innisfree store, I knew it would be perfect for me. And I happily approve that it is now my favourite scented handcream! I used a single tube for 3 months; will definitely purchase a new one soon!

+ Purchased in Innisfree physical store

8. Cactus Pen and Dragon Pen

I love hoarding cute stationery, so it was no surprise when I purchased these two pens! They're both black gel pens.

+ Purchased from Miniso

9. Date Stamp and Pink Ink Pad

I've been trying to get into bullet journalling this year using my six-ring diary from BTS Season's Greetings 2020, and decided to buy this date stamp for it. The pink ink is a bit too pale, but I still prefer to use pink than black or blue ink.

+ Date stamp from Miniso; Pink Ink Pad from Mr. DIY

10. Bio Essence Bio-Water Mist

I think I've featured this previously in at least one of my haul posts, because I often buy it. I normally buy the smallest size, but since it was out of stock that time, I decided to buy the medium size. It didn't actually fit my makeup bag, but it is better than I'm able to use it much longer compared to the small size.

+ Available in all drugstores; purchased mine at Watsons

11. Nivea Peach Lip Balm with Brown Otter Case

I've always wanted Nivea's Peach lip balm (I had my own reason why I didn't buy it before) but when I saw LINE Friend's Brown in an Otter costume as the lip balm case, I was sold. I needed it. Loved the lip balm so much, and the case definitely made it so much better since I'm now able to hang it on my handbag or makeup bag and reapply my lip balm easily whenever I needed to.

+ Purchased at Watsons

12. Enamel Pins, Strap Keychains and Stickers by Tae.Bot

My pin maker friend, Sher, was kind enough to send all these lovely things my way 💗 We planned a Taehyung fankit December last year, but didn't end up making it, so decided to exchange a few things to appreciate each other.

The Jungkook and Jimin Muster enamel pins are so smol, they're so cute! I've also never had strap keychains before, and these two turned out very pretty.

+ Gifted by @tae.bot

13. Acrylic Keychains, Button Badge and Stickers by Mooncherrytae

Another pin maker friend of mine, Lav, sent these pretty things in my way. Lav was the one who initially planned the Taehyung fankit project, and I'm grateful to be included. Her glittery Beyond the Scene acrylic keychain is my favourite; it's now hanging on my wallet.

+ Gifted by @mooncherrytaeshop

Title: Circus of the Unseen
Author: Joanne Owen
Publisher: Hot Key Books
Genres: Young adult, Fantasy
Format: Paperback
Publication Date: November 6th 2014
Pages: 199

Synopsis (Goodreads): After an accident at her grandmother's house, Rosie is transported to a strange and sinister world populated by a cast of carnivalesque characters who reside in the Circus of the Unseen. They are reigned over by an old woman called Madam Matushka, who guards the threshold between life and death and has extraordinary powers over all around her.

This is an in-between world, a bizarre and trapped existence, but Rosie is not like the others here. She seems to be hovering between the worlds of the living and the dead, and she is a challenge to Madam Matushka. Can Rosie escape Madame Matushka's malevolent rule and a world in limbo? And can she help resolve another mystery - one at the heart of her grandmother's life?

;

My rating: 3 / 5 ★

Picked up this book for two reasons: 1) Its gorgeous cover; 2) Dark circus concepts intrigues me.

Circus of the Unseen is a rather light read thanks to its short length, with a subtle touch of darkness in it. To be honest, I was expecting a much darker theme for the story, perhaps something that could send chills to my bones (note: I read the book at 3 A.M.), unfortunately to my slight disappointment, there wasn't enough dark elements to it. The plot feels rather flat and we never actually get to know Rosie personally, except for the fact that she's too curious about her grandmother's past.

But I do like the setting and idea of the circus; I believe I enjoyed the minor characters and wished that their characters had more exposure than just how they ended up at the circus instead. I would have loved to know more about Madam Matushka especially. There were not many scenes of the things that they do at the circus either, making it to be rather dull when it could have been a wonderful part of the story.

There are also a few unnecessary characters, or perhaps characters that are supposed to make a point in the story but the author seemed to forget so. For instance, the boy that came to see Rosie before she "fell" into the circus– I mean, who is he? And he even has a sister, which probably only said a sentence or two. I could not see the point of their characters at all. And there were not much being mentioned about Rosie's own sister either. I know she's just a minor character, but her presence could have been made better.

Overall, it was a quick read and a rather enjoyable one too despite its shortcomings. The idea of it was wonderful, and I do like the author's writing style, but it could have been better if the story is extended just a little bit more so details can be added into it. The ending was not quite agreeable to me (I definitely would choose my family first, no matter what), but I guess it is better for Rosie to accept what has happened to her. There are matters that you could not control in this world anyway.

Well. I definitely did not go to South Korea myself.

Back in January, my older sister had a trip to South Korea with her friends, so I wouldn't want to miss the chance to "kirim" something from her while she was there. I did however, only asked her to buy me one thing. One.

But oh— look what we have here now (ノ′◉⌄◉‵)ノ*:・゚✧

1. Skinfood Rice Soft Scrub Mask Wash Off

This is the one thing that I asked my sister to buy for me.

Skinfood's Rice Mask is my favourite mask, but ever since a lot of their franchise that I know around my place had been closed down, I couldn't buy it from a physical store anymore. I rarely purchase skincare products online as well, so I really wanted my sister to get me one.

Haven't started using it back again, but I can't wait to pamper myself with this mask and get my skin smooth as a baby's butt!

2. Mini Pouch

Just a pretty mini pouch („ᵕᴗᵕ„) my older sister also bought a matching one for my younger sister.

3. Peaches! 🍑 Socks & Foam Sticker

Since she knows how much I love peaches– and stickers and socks, these were purchased without giving much thoughts to it. I have no complaints anyway because they're cute!

4. BT21 Universtar Badge: Cooky

A small part of me is relieved that there are no physical LINE Friends store around my country (pop-up ones excluded) because I can swear that they will indeed be the death of me. When my sister asked which enamel pin I wanted and sent several pictures of choices for me to choose from, I was on the verge of screaming aloud because. HOW. DO. YOU. CHOOSE?

All of them are too adorable and I hate choosing and I'm absolutely positive I could spend hours at the store because I couldn't make up my mind.

After many times changing my mind, I finally settled with this version of Cooky Universtar badge, and it's just the cutest little thing ♡(˘꒳˘❀)

5. Mediheal x BTS Face Mask Set

I believe this is the very highlight of this haul post ଘ(੭ ˘ ᵕ˘)━☆゚.*・。゚ I've never been able to afford a whole box of Mediheal masks here or even through online purchase as they're quite expensive, but being in their origin country, this whole box costed around RM30+ only in South Korea. Of course I wouldn't miss the chance getting them!

There are a total of 10 masks in the box; 5 Teatree Care Solution Essential Masks and 5 W.H.P White Hydrating Black Masks. I personally prefer the W.H.P ones because it hydrates my skin better than the Teatree.

And yes, of course, not to miss the photocard/postcard set of my lovely boys that comes with the box ・゚✧*:・゚✧ If only I could get a clear smooth skin like them after wearing the mask though ಡ ̯ ಡ

Title: The Ghost Bride
Author: Yangsze Choo
Publisher: Hot Key Books
Genres: Young adult, Fantasy, Historical fiction, Romance
Format: Paperback
Publication Date: August 1st 2013
Pages: 390

Synopsis (Goodreads): Seventeen-year-old Li Lan lives in 1890s Malaya with her quietly-ruined father, who returns one evening with a proposition - the fabulously wealthy Lim family want Li Lan to marry their son. The only problem is, he's dead. After a fateful visit to the Lim mansion, Li Lan finds herself haunted not only by her ghostly would-be suitor, but also her desire for the Lims' handsome new heir. At night she is drawn into the Chinese afterlife - a world of ghost cities, paper funeral offerings, monstrous bureaucracy and vengeful spirits. Enlisting the help of mysterious Er Lang (a dragon turned clerk) Li Lan must uncover the secrets of the ghost world - before she becomes trapped there forever.

Drawing on traditional Malayan folklore and superstition, THE GHOST BRIDE is a haunting, exotic and romantic read perfect for fans of EMPRESS ORCHID and MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA.

;

My rating: 4 / 5 ★

I have to admit, nothing excites me more than being able to understand the reference of the local ghost names in The Ghost Bride. I mean, it's not every day that I get to see "pontianak" or "pelesit" being mentioned in an English book, much less a young adult one. Despite being happy with the rep of Malaysian ghosts, I did notice a mistake when "pontianak" is mentioned as a flying head of a woman who died during childbirth, with her inside organs trailing down—I can't recall the exact words the author used, but still, no. That's supposed to be "penanggal", which is definitely way more terrifying than a "pontianak". I suggest not to look it up though.

The Ghost Bride is about a young maiden from the 1890s Malaya, who got caught into marrying a man who has already died. The story mentions a lot of superstitions and folklore surrounding the Malayan people, especially the Chinese people, most definitely due to the fact that the main character, Li Lan is a Chinese herself. In escaping her fate of being courted by a spirit, she found a first love, lost her own body leading to her spirit wandering and encountering other spirits as well as a dragon.

I appreciate the way the author introduced several cultures and things about Malaya, but it's a shame that it was not a focal point in the story since most of the plot involved Li Lan's journey in the spirit world instead. It was interesting at first as Li Lan was slammed immediately regarding being a ghost bride from the first page, and then the ghost of Tian Ching started to haunt her dreams. I was expecting the plot to be fast paced and perhaps able to incite an adrenaline rush through me, but sadly to say, it was rather slow.

Once Li Lan was parted from her body and her spirit wandered away in search of "secrets" of the ghost world, it started to become draggy. I saw no point in most parts of her journey that contributes to her mission–but then again, I don't think she actually had a solid mission as well.

Although I applaud Li Lan's courage as she wandered around (I swear I would never step out of the room if I was her), I don't fancy her character that much, except during her moments with Er Lang. Apart from the side characters like Amah and Old Wong making the story a lot better, Li Lan's interactions with Er Lang are what made me decide to give the book a four stars instead of three. The qi transferring scene is just oh-so-scandalous, and I'm glad my reading buddy Jessica (check out her review as well!) agreed that it was possibly the best part of the book. I do however admit that there were not enough moments for their chemistry to build strongly, but it was understandable how it came to be.

This review is a mess and I probably didn't convince anyone (not even myself), but I'll just say that as a whole, The Ghost Bride is actually a good read. It would not be perfect if you're looking for a historical fiction based in Malaya (old Malaysia), but if you'd like to know a thing or two about our culture and enjoys fantasy and supernatural elements, this might be the right book for you.

A huge thank you to Pansing for giving me the chance to read The Ghost Bride in exchange for an honest review! This book is currently available in all good bookstores.

;

In the darkness of a thousand withered souls, it was Er Lang’s hand that I sought, and his voice that I longed to hear. Perhaps it is selfish of me, but an uncertain future with him, in all its laughter and quarrels, is better than being left behind.
